What is a ION Extended Warranty?

A Saturn ION service contract is a promise to perform (or pay for) certain repairs of services. Most consumers call this a "Saturn ION Extended Warranty", however a Saturn ION service contract is not a extended warranty as defined by federal law. The separate and additional cost distinguishes a service contract from a Saturn warranty. A General Motors Protection Plan (GMPP) may be arranged at any time and always costs extra; a Saturn ION factory warranty comes with a new Saturn ION and is included in the original price of the vehicle.

Are you thinking about extending coverage on your ION?

If you are purchasing a Saturn ION, or if you already own one, you may be thinking about getting some level of extended coverage beyond the normal Saturn ION factory warranty. Although Saturn ION's are generally very reliable vehicles, a General Motors Protection Plan, commonly referred to as a Saturn ION extended warranty, may provide you with extra protection to offer you the peace of mind you are looking for. GMPP for your Saturn ION can provide coverage that goes beyond the factory warranty of your vehicle, providing years of added protection. These General Motors Protection Plans (GMPP) are accepted nationwide at all Saturn dealers, and also afford you with most of the benefits provided with a new car purchase.

ION Extended Warranties - Alternative Provider

Many third party websites offer protection plans that they call ION extended warranties, these too are not to be confused with a warranty. Their is only one factory backed protection plan, namely the GMPP - General Motors Protection Plan, in which is not a warranty at all, it is a service contract with a promise to perform (or pay for) mechanical breakdown. Many consumers feel more comfortable with the convenience and affordability of a factory backed protection plan. However, there are alternative ION extended warranty providers. You should investigate your options before choosing your extended protection plan.

ION Factory Warranty:

New Vehicle Limited Warranty on ION vehicles registered in the U.S.A. are covered for 3 years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first (some GM products may have additional coverage). The complete vehicle is covered, including tires, towing to your nearest Saturn ION dealership, and cosmetic corrosion resulting from defects. Repairs will be made to correct any vehicle defect, and most warranty repairs will be made at no charge. In addition, rust-through corrosion will be covered for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). See your Saturn ION dealer for details.

Corrosion Protection

ION are designed and built to resist corrosion. All body and sheet metal components are warranted against rust-through corrosion for 6 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first). Application of additional rust-inhibiting materials is not required under the corrosion coverage and none is recommended. See your Saturn ION dealer for terms of this limited warranty.

Assembly

ION's and their components are assembled or produced by different operating units of General Motors, its subsidiaries, or suppliers to Saturn worldwide. General Motors sometimes find it necessary to produce ION vehicles with different or differently sourced components than originally scheduled. Since some options may be unavailable when your vehicle is assembled, General Motors suggests you verify that your ION includes the equipment you ordered and that, if there were changes, they are acceptable to you.

Engines

ION are equipped with engines produced by Saturn Powertrain or other suppliers to Saturn worldwide. The engines in Saturn products may also be used in other Saturn makes and models.

An Important Note About Alterations and Saturn Warranties

Installations or alterations to the original equipment vehicle (or chassis) as distributed by General Motors are not covered by the General Motors New Vehicle Limited Warranty. The special body company, assembler, equipment installer, or upfitter is solely responsible for warranties on the body or equipment and any alterations (or any effect of the alterations) to any of the parts, components, systems, or assemblies installed by Saturn. General Motors is not responsible for the safety or quality of design features, materials, or workmanship of any alterations by such suppliers.
